Smeg fridges are popular for their retro style. Smeg is an Italian company manufacturing domestic appliances. It is owned by the Bertazonni family. Smeg stands for “smalterie metallurgiche emiliane Guastalla”, which is the name of a metal enamelling factory in the village of Guastalla, in the North Italian town of Reggio Emilia. The company was founded by Vittorio Bertazzoni in 1948 and since then has been run by his family. It is currently under the management of Roberto Bertazzoni.
The popular Smeg fridges come from the company’s FAB range. These fridges are rounded at the corners and come in bright colours such as blue, lime green and pink. They are known for their stylistic, simple and unique appeal. In the UK, they are considered a stylish addition to any kitchen.
Smeg fridges and other Smeg products go through a development and testing cycle lasting two years and their technology is said to have a lifespan of 15 years. Apart from the retro fifties style of design, Smeg fridges are energy efficient and have a tropical compressor. Their chrome wine racks make them look very stylish. Most of the Smeg fridges have a one-year guarantee on the parts as well as the labour.
Recently, Smeg has expanded the business by manufacturing more products for the kitchen such as induction hobs, integrated washing machines and washer dryers. The Opera free-standing cooker range called A1 is extremely popular and these cookers become fashion statements similar to owning a FAB28 fridge. These products have maintained the company’s reputation as a leader in design and aesthetics.
Smeg fridges do not manufacture all the components for their retro range of fridges as some components are also manufactured by Gorenje. Smeg dishwashers are sold under the brand names of Diplomat and Hygena.
Smeg fridges, over the years, have won a band of their own die-hard customers, and are continuing to add more to this list.
