Personal digital assistants (PDAs) or personal organizers have been on the market for quite a while with each model competing for its share in the palm top sector. With rapidly advancing technology, PDA manufacturers have been able to equip PDAs with powerful processors while shrinking the size of these palm wonders. One of the most popular PDAs to hit the market in recent times is the Dell Axim with the debut of the Axim X5 in 2002.
The basic Axim X5 models were equipped with a 300 MHz Intel XScale PXA250 Processor, 32MB RAM, 32MB flash ROM, a 16-bit TFT display, a speaker and a microphone. On the other hand, a high-end Axim X5 boasted a 400 MHz Intel XScale Processor, 64MB RAM and 48MB flash ROM. The initial models were powered by the Windows Mobile operating system. Then, starting with the Dell Axim X3, all the models came pre-installed with the Windows Mobile 2003 operating system. The Dell Axim X3 family of palm tops made way for the Dell Axim X30 family. The Dell Axim X30 was the first Pocket PC equipped with an Intel XScale PXA270 Processor. The X30s were powered by the Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition. The X30s saw several enhancements including a 3.5 inch QVGA TFT, a 624 MHz processor, built-in 802.11b Wi-Fi Certification and Bluetooth 1.1 compliance, a standard SD/MMC/SDIO slot, and a rechargeable battery. The subsequent models (Dell Axim X50 family and Dell Axim X51 family) featured a larger display screen that supported higher display resolutions, faster processors and more memory.
The newer Axim palm tops came with some cool features to suit specific user requirements. For instance, with a change in the power setting, you can prolong the battery life. Since memory consumption keeps on increasing with the addition of a new application, the Axim palm top computers are equipped with both system memory and Read-Only Memory so that it has enough memory to handle the demanding applications.
The popular personal organizers from Dell include the Dell Axim X51v Pocket PC, the Dell Axim X50v Pocket PC, the Dell Axim X3 Pocket PC, the Dell Axim X5 Pocket PC, and the Dell Pro Golf Axim X30 Pocket PC. Each boasts its own distinct features to make life less complex. The latest model from the Dell Axim family is the Axim X51.
These personal organizers let you organize your day and manage your work wherever you go. The powerful features let you access the Internet on-the-go, play games and snap pictures. All these features allow you to edit word documents and create PowerPoint presentations. With powerful operating systems, superior computing power, and multimedia capabilities, the Dell Axim PDAs make work easier and life more organized.
