All of us love to capture different events and milestones of our lives, and save them as photos and images so that we can remember these special moments for a really long time. A 35mm camera uses film to capture photos unlike most modern cameras which store pictures digitally.
The world’s first mass-marketed 35mm camera was launched in the early twentieth century by Oskar Barnack who worked for a company that dealt with motion picture cameras. The 35mm camera was created because Mr. Barnack wanted to reduce the format of the negatives used in motion picture cameras and then enlarge the photographs once they had been exposed. He worked hard at this idea and decided on converting a simple instrument. This instrument was used for exposure samples for cinema film but Oskar Barnack turned it into the world’s first 35mm camera. Later, other features were added to this rudimentary 35mm camera, which Oskar Barnack initially called ‘Ur-Leica’.
Motion picture cameras were among the first to use 35mm film. Most traditional cameras that use films to capture photos are based on the motion picture cameras. Even today, 35mm cameras are widely used by photographers, photo-journalists, magazine and newspaper companies and many other professionals across different sections of society. Unlike images that can be altered by computers, photos captured by the 35mm camera retain the content in original form and colour.
The 35mm cameras are also very easy to use and preferred by professionals and amateurs alike. These cameras traditionally came in shiny black and chrome colours. They are also quite big in size. Over the years, these cameras have undergone a sea change and are now built to fit into a pocket. They are designed only to click and store images and photos unlike digital cameras which can edit the photos, print them and can even make phone calls. The 35mm films are quite hardy and they can endure rough use and adverse weather conditions to a large extent.
The 35mm compact cameras have additional features in comparison to the traditional ones. The compact cameras have “auto exposure” and also have built-in automatic flash. These features enable the cameras to be used just about anywhere. The main feature of such 35mm cameras is the presence of a single focal length lens and fixed lenses that are used for producing sharper pictures.
These days, with the advent of digital cameras, there is a certain charm associated with the traditional film-and-camera photos. Also, high-calibre professional photographers still prefer to use 35mm cameras because such photos have better clarity and resolution in comparison to photos taken by digital cameras. It is for this reason that 35mm cameras are produced by most leading companies in the world and will continue to remain popular in the future as well.
