Konica Minolta is a leading manufacturer of office and medical and graphic imaging equipment, optical devices and measuring instruments. Konica Minolta Holdings has its headquarters in America with operations across the world including Europe and the Asia Pacific.
Konica Minolta was incorporated on 7 January 2003 as a result of a merger between the imaging firms called Konica and Minolta. In March 2007, Konica Minolta closed down their photo imaging business along with their colour film, colour paper, photo chemical and digital mini-lab machine divisions. Konica’s Odawara factory was purchased by Dai Nippon who had plans to continue paper production under the same brand. Konica’s chemical factory was acquired by Seapac.
The DiMage 7 has a nice mix of features from both Konica Minolta’s digital cameras and their SLR cameras. Konica Minolta was the first company to integrate an anti-shake system into digital cameras. This anti-shake system allowed photographers to take clear photographs even if their hands shook and trembled slightly while pressing the shutter. Konica Minolta has also incorporated many advanced features in their digital cameras such as histograms with the camera controls which were actually designed for traditional SLR camera users.
Digital SLRs from Konica Minolta are also very popular with photographers all over the world. Konica Minolta introduced the RD-175 in 1995 and the RD-3000 in 1999. Minolta made some early forays in digital SLR cameras with great success. The RD-175 uses 3 different CCD image sensors. These sensors display images by using an advanced light-splitting mechanism. This mechanism splits light by using prisms which are mounted behind the lens. Such a technology ensures crystal-clear images and superior quality photographs.
The Konica Minolta RD-3000 uses multiple CCDs with two 1.5 MP sensors to provide a 2.7 MP image output. After the merger with Konica in late 2004, Minolta launched the Dynax/Maxxum/α 7, a highly advanced digital SLR camera. It has a built-in anti-shake mechanism. Another digital SLRs are the Dynax/Maxxum 7D and the Dynax/Maxxum 5D.
Konica Minolta launched it’s α (Alpha) line of digital SLRs based on the Konica Minolta technology in late 2006, and the Alpha a100 in February 2007. Both these camera have been well received and are now available worldwide.
