Pioneer is one of the most reputed companies in the world today as far as electronics are concerned. A Tokyo based multinational company, Pioneer began as a repair shop for radios and speakers. Now, it is concerned with the creation of interactivity within cable TV, the CD, the LD and the Laser Disc players, and other cutting edge technology like the OLED or the Organic LED, DVD recorders and portable car music systems.
Pioneer was also responsible for introducing Hi-Fi speakers in the 1950s. In the early 1960s, it introduced the first stereo system to the world which could be separated and detached from a larger system. In fact, Pioneer has several firsts to its credit. It was responsible for creating and marketing the first stereo system which could be played and used inside a vehicle. In 1977, the Pioneer Corporation invented the first CATV (Cable TV) system, which was capable of two-way addressing and allowed viewers to interact with it. They were also responsible for inventing the first LD player for industrial and home use in the 1980s. A decade later, Pioneer released the CD player and they then invented the combination player which could support both the LD and the CD. Towards the end of the 1990s Pioneer released another innovative device, the DVD based Global Positioning System (GPS) which could be installed and used in a car.
They then took a step forward and invented the wireless GPS in 2002 which really boosted sales and took car navigation systems to the next level.
Pioneer is also one of the first companies to manufacture a reader–writer drive for DVD-Rs and then a DVD recorder that could support the new DVD-RW media. In the same year, they produced the first OEL for cars and then 50-inch plasmas, which could be bought and used in homes. The CATV set-top boxes which received superior TV signals were also introduced by Pioneer in the US market.
Pioneer products are known to have superior quality and therefore sell at a higher price range in comparison to other products. Coveted by billions, Pioneer has indeed pioneered the field of consumer electronics.
