Sitting close to your computer screen for a long period of time can be uncomfortable for most users. Also, the wires behind a computer monitor can take up a lot of space. In such cases, a wireless keyboard is very useful as it offers a comfortable and organized option for inputting data to your computer.
A wireless keyboard is exactly the same as any other wired computer keyboard, except that a wireless keyboard uses radio frequency, infrared beams or Bluetooth technology to transfer typed data onto the computer screen. Wireless keyboards are comfortable to hold and enable mobile operation.
Radio frequency was the technology adopted for manufacturing the first wireless keyboards. Wireless keyboards that work on radio frequency use radio waves to transmit information to the monitor. Using the 2.4 GHz radio frequency transmission, these keyboards can work effectively up to a 15-metre range away from the desktop.
Wireless keyboards that work on infrared radiation use infrared beams to transfer data onto the computer screen. These beams are similar to radio waves and require you to place the keyboard in a fairly close proximity to the computer screen. These keyboards should ideally be placed in the direction of the receiver (the screen) to ensure the line-of-sight between the receiver and transmitter is not blocked.
As the name suggests, Bluetooth wireless keyboards use Bluetooth technology to transmit typed data. They are faster and don’t need to be placed facing the screen. These keyboards can work within a range of four metres or more and hence eliminate the need to be seated close to your computer screen. Bluetooth wireless keyboards work with all Bluetooth enabled PCs and are ideal for work as well as game play.
Some ergonomic wireless keyboards also feature the left and right mouse keys. The trackball optical technology is a built-in thumb-operated mouse ball. This optical sensor technology helps you to work with precision and accuracy. These keyboards also have hot keys which are one-touch access keys to applications such as the Internet Browser, Log Off, Calculator, My Documents, My Computer or My Music. With enhanced F keys, you can perform tasks like Undo, Redo, New, Open, Close, Save and Print by pressing just one button. Some keyboards also have a curved design to offer maximum comfort and allow a natural positioning of the hand, wrist and arm.
