With the arrival of a new member in the family, parents often find themselves with little time for anything else. Sometimes it is difficult even to rock the baby to sleep after a tiring day. It’s at times like these that baby swings are almost a like a boon for parents.
A baby swing is a great way to lull the baby into a sweet nap. With baby swings parents can feel relieved and use the extra time to do house chores, rest awhile or take a shower while the baby spends time in the swing napping or lying awake. Swings are safe for infants who are six months or older, but certainly not younger.
There are different types of baby swings available on the market. The most popular among them are the Wind-Up baby swings, Battery-operated swings and Travel swings.
Wind-up Swings: These are the oldest kind of baby swings available and require manual winding (similar to a key-wound toy) from time to time. They can make a creaking noise when being wound. Many parents prefer this kind of swing as it is lighter on the pocket.
Battery-operated swings: Battery operated versions of baby swings are popular among modern parents. These require regular battery change and do away with the need to re-wind from time to time. This makes battery operated swings a convenient choice over the wind-up swings.
Travel swings: As the name suggests, travel baby swings are carried on trips and outings. These are foldable and manually operated swings and can be quickly installed with the help of a few hooks and loops (included).
All swings come with different speed options ranging from slow to medium. One can select from swing speeds so that the baby can sleep or play in the swing comfortably. Also available are swings with different rocking motions like sideways or back and forth. Some advanced swings even have a combination of both. Many baby swings feature musical sounds like bird chiming, rhymes or lullabies and colourful lights to keep the baby happily occupied.
Choosing the right baby swing can be a challenging task. Parents gather as much information possible about the various types of baby swings and their features. An important feature is the reclining seat as it allows the baby to sit or sleep comfortably while providing good support to the baby’s back. Additional features include an open top for taking the baby out or placing the baby in the swing easily, wheels for converting the swing into a walker and food tray or holders to feed the baby while it is in the swing.
