Alicia Silverstone was born on 4 October, 1976, in San Francisco. She has a Scottish mother and a British father. At age six, Silverstone received her first modelling assignment. She dropped out of high school and soon began her advertising career. Her first TV commercial was for Domino’s Pizza. She got more work and was soon cast as the “dream girl” in the TV series, The Wonder Years.
In 1993, Silverstone won the leading role in the film The Crush (1993). The film revolved around a young girl who tries to ruin the life of an older man for not responding to her affections. Silverstone won the Best Breakthrough Performance Award and also the Best Villain Award for the film.
Marty Callner, who saw Silverstone in The Crush, felt she would be perfect for the Aerosmith video he was planning to direct. The Aerosmith video “Cryin” and two more that followed, “Amazing” and “Crazy”, went on to become huge hits and Silverstone became a household name (sometimes referred to as “the Aerosmith chick”).
Silverstone’s next big break came when Amy Heckerling decided to cast her in her film Clueless (1995). The film went on to become the sleeper hit of the summer and Silverstone bagged a US$10 million deal with Columbia TriStar. As part of the deal, Silverstone had the opportunity to take a three-year first-look deal for her own production company, First Kiss Productions. Her performances won her many awards, including two MTV Movie Awards for Best Female Performance and Most Desirable Female.
Silverstone went on to star as Batgirl in the film Batman & Robin (1997). After a series of films Silverstone starred in NBC’s television show Miss Match.
Silverstone married her rock musician boyfriend, Christopher Jarecki, in a beachfront ceremony in 2005. The couple were dating each other for eight years before they decided to get married. They live in LA in an eco-friendly house with solar panels. Silverstone also likes to grow her own organic vegetables.
