Hollywood superstar Brad Pitt is an actor, producer and activist. He is the only man ever to have been voted “The Sexiest Man Alive” twice by People magazine (in 1994 and 2000). He is also famous for his relationship with actress Angelina Jolie with whom he has adopted three children and fathered one.
He was born William Bradley “Brad” Pitt on 18 December, 1963, in Oklahoma and grew up in Missouri with his brother and sister. At school, he was an outgoing child and participated in sports, drama, debates and student council activities. He majored in Journalism at the University of Missouri. To support himself, he did many odd jobs like dressing up as a giant chicken and even driving strippers in limos.
Pitt moved to Beverly Hills, California, and trained under acting coach Roy London. In the late 1980s, he started out with small roles in sitcoms like Growing Pains and 21 Jump Street. He first got noticed for his supporting role in Thelma & Louise (1991). His topless love scene as Thelma’s friend earned him the “sex symbol” tag.
Pitt has starred with some of the finest actors in Hollywood and his performances have slowly gained appreciation and awards. His repertoire includes: Interview with the Vampire (1994) with Antonio Banderas and Tom Cruise; Legends of the Fall (1994) and Meet Joe Black (1998) both with Sir Anthony Hopkins; Se7en (1995) with Morgan Freeman, Kevin Spacey and Gwyneth Paltrow; Twelve Monkeys (1995) with Bruce Willis; The Devil’s Own (1997) with Harrison Ford; Seven Years in Tibet (1997) which resulted in him being banned from entering China for life; Fight Club (1999); Snatch (2000); Spy Game (2001) with Robert Redford: The Mexican (2001) with Julia Roberts; Ocean’s Eleven (2001); Troy (2004) and Mr & Mrs Smith (2005) both with Angelina Jolie; and Babel (2006) with Cate Blanchett. Pitt was nominated for an Academy Award for Twelve Monkeys and for a Golden Globe for Babel. In 2007, he produced Martin Scorsese’s Academy Award-winning thriller The Departed.
Pitt has also endorsed various products in TV commercials such as Edwin Jeans, Heineken, canned coffee and the Toyota Altis.
Before Pitt got involved with Angelina Jolie, he was married to actress Jennifer Aniston. Aniston, famous for her role in NBC’s sitcom Friends, owned a production company with Pitt. The couple were married in 1998 and divorced in 2005.
Pitt supports various causes including research into Aids. He also lends his talent as a narrator for the TV show, RX for Survival: A Global Health Challenge. He lives with partner Jolie and their children in LA and New Orleans. Forbes magazine estimated that Pitt’s wealth was around $35 million in 2007.
