The blue-eyed blonde beauty Cameron Diaz was born in 1972 in San Diego to a Cuban-American father and a German-English mother. She grew up in Long Beach along with her sister and brother. Being very spirited and independent from a very young age, Diaz loved to party and attended lots of Hollywood events. It was at one such party that she was noticed by a photographer who gave her her first big break with Elite Model Management.
By the age of sixteen Cameron Diaz was ready to travel around the world; she went to Mexico, Japan, Paris, Morocco, and Australia on modelling assignments. She returned five years later at the age of twenty-one to more modelling work and an audition for the film The Mask (1994). With no experience in acting whatsoever, she managed to bag the lead opposite Jim Carrey and gained her first commercial success. But after the pressure of working on a big film and having no acting knowledge, Diaz decided to do small films to gain some experience. She did films like The Last Supper (1995), Feeling Minnesota (1996) and Head Above Water (1996).
Her next big film was with Julia Roberts in My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997). She managed to steal everybody’s heart as a young, adorable and trusting fiancée. She followed it up with her biggest success so far There’s Something About Mary (1998), which seemed as if it was tailor-made for her.
Being John Malkovitch (1999) not only won her critical acclaim but also nominations for Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes, BAFTAs and SAG Awards. As if this wasn’t enough, she was again nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for Vanilla Sky (2001) and then for Martin Scorcese’s Gangs of New York (2002).
She soon became one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood with a $20 million salary. Her refreshing, smiling face in Charlie’s Angels (2000) was in direct contrast to her otherwise tough girl image in the film. She also did the voice of Princess Fiona in Shrek 1, 2 and 3 (2001, 2004 & 2007). She was again asked to star opposite her first co-star Jim Carrey in Fun with Dick and Jane but declined in favour of In Her Shoes (2005).
Lately Cameron Diaz has been in the news for her relationship with Justin Timberlake and their subsequent break-up. Diaz is also pretty vocal about her political views and is open about her choices regarding political candidates. 2008 will see her weave her magic again on audiences as two of her latest films, The Box and My Sister’s Keeper , are set to be released.
