Cheryl Ladd claims that despite her numerous achievements she will always be remembered as an “Angel”. True, considering she replaced Farah Fawcett in the popular seventies television series, Charlie’s Angels; and superbly too, especially when everyone thought nobody could do it better than the original actress.
Cheryl Jean Stoppelmoor was born on 12, July, 1951, in South Dakota. She was a cheerleader in school. In the seventies, she decided to become a singer and came to be known as Cherie Moor. Her first album was based on Hannah Barbera’s animated series Josie and Pussycats .
A year later, deciding that singing was not enough, Cheryl considered acting. She claims that she was always on the move and upon graduation decided to come to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of being an actress. She got a few offers and did some feature movies for television such as Chrome and Hot Leather and Satan’s School for Girls . She also made guest appearances in a few television sitcoms.
Her biggest role, however, was as an “Angel” in Charlie’s Angels when she was asked to replace Farah Fawcett in the second season. The series continued for the next three years. She continued with her singing and recorded a solo album entitled Cheryl. A year later she came out with another album, Dance Forever .
Her big movie breaks came in Poison Ivy and Purple Hearts . But she continued being active on the television movie circuit. Her part in ABC’s When She was Bad , which dealt with child abuse, made her sympathetic towards the cause and she became an ambassador for Childhelp USA. She was awarded the “Woman of the Year” Award by the organisation.
Cheryl’s television credit includes lot of movies, one of which starred her own daughter Jordan Ladd in Every Mother’s Worst Fear . She also did a miniseries on the beautiful actress Grace Kelly and Jekyll and Hyde with Michael Caine.
Cheryl is a woman of many talents. She has authored her book entitled Token Chick: A Woman’s Guide to Golfing with the Boys. Cheryl took to golfing after she got married and penned her experiences as a woman trying to learn golf, a male dominated sport. She also published a children’s book titled The Adventures of Little Nettie Windship .
Cheryl worked on Broadway as Annie Oakley in Irving Berlin’s musical Annie Get Your Gun . Today she stars in the hit sitcom Las Vegas . Cheryl has never shied away from doing different roles. Drama, comedy, action – she has done all and is always waiting for another challenge to come her way.
