In 2003, he was named as one of the “50 Most Beautiful People” in People magazine and Company magazine voted him No.6 in their “Sexiest Man in the World” list. Happy-go-lucky and fun loving, Colin Farrell has shot to fame quickly and is said to have been quite a character since childhood.
Colin Farrell was born on 31 May, 1976, to Rita and Eamon Farrell (an ex-footballer for Shamrock Rovers FC). Colin dropped out of school to follow his father and make it big in sport. However, he could not cope with the rigorous training and soon left that behind too. He always craved fame, so he joined the Gaiety School of Drama, but dropped out when he was cast by BBC in the Irish comedy Ballykissangel.
After a stint of two years in Ballykissangel, Farrell made small appearances on television and in movies. His big break came in 2000 when he won the role of Private Roland Bozz in the film Tigerland, directed by Joel Schumacher. This was then followed by American Outlaws (2001), and Hart’s War (2002) alongside Bruce Willis.
His other big films include Minority Report (2002) and the thriller Phone Booth (2001), again directed by Joel Schumacher. Colin Farrell has been an ardent fan and admirer of Al Pacino and it was a dream come true for him when he acted with his idol in the thriller The Recruit in 2003. The same year saw him in five other movies: Daredevil, Veronica Guerin, S.W.A.T., Intermission and A Home at the End of the World. He has also starred in Alexander (2005), The New World (2005), Ask the Dust (2006), Miami Vice (2006) and Cassandra’s Dream (2007).
Colin Farrell was married to Amelia Warner in 2001 but they were divorced within four months of marriage. He dated Kim Bordenave and they have a son, James, however they separated soon after the child was born.
Farrell has won a number of awards for his spectacular performances including the Best Actor award from The Boston Society of Film Critics for Tigerland, as well as MTV movie awards, and Teen Choice awards.
Farrell is known for his strange sense of humour. When asked about fitness, he remarked, “I don’t go to the gym or practice yoga. And the closest thing I have to a nutritionist is the Carlsberg Beer Company. I just have the appetite of a pigeon.”
