The Charlie’s Angels star Drew Barrymore is a naturally gifted actress with a flair for comic roles. She was born on 22 February, 1975, into the Barrymore family of actors. Coming from a long line of actors like John, Lionel, and Ethel Barrymore, it seemed inevitable that she would find her way into the limelight. Unsurprisingly, she started her career very early with the Puppy Choice dog food commercial, when she was only eleven months old. Her film debut was Altered States (1980), but it was her role in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial in 1982 which propelled her to instant stardom, making her one of the most recognized child artists in Hollywood. Unfortunately fame came with a price. She was spotted smoking cigarettes aged 9, marijuana aged 10, and drinking alcohol and snorting cocaine aged 14. Her partying and nightlife were a much talked about in the media. These episodes of her early childhood were later recounted in her autobiography, Little Girl Lost.
After spending her time in the rehab, she made her film comeback with Poison Ivy (1992), in which she portrayed an evil teenage seductress. Although the film bombed at the box office, it was successful on video and cable. She has posed nude for Playboy and appeared nude in five of her films. She even bared her breasts on TV on The Late Show with David Letterman.
She re-launched herself as a wild girl with films like Bad Girls (1994), Mad Love (1995), and Batman Forever (1995). Although she had a troubled childhood with a history of drug abuse and spending time in rehab, she fought her way back and now has numerous hit movies under her belt. With the release of the horror film Scream (1996), she again returned to spotlight as one of the youngest and most successful Hollywood actresses. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she was the second most highly paid actress in 2006.
In 2000, she even ventured into producing films with Charlie’s Angels – a huge box-office success. Her more mature role in Riding in Cars with Boys (2001) was well received and gained critical acclaim. By 2004, she was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Some of her box-office hits include Wishful Thinking (1996), Home Fries (1998), Never Been Kissed (1999), 50 First Dates (2004), and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002). Her recent releases include Music and Lyrics (2007) and Lucky You (2007). All these Drew Barrymore movies can be enjoyed on CD and DVD and are available in several online stores.
