Farrah Fawcett is a famous American actress. She was born to James Fawcett, an oil field contractor, and Pauline, a housewife, on 2 February, 1947, in Corpus Christi, Texas. She studied at the John J. Pershing Middle School in Houston. In 1965, she graduated from the W.B. Ray High School, where she was voted as the “Most Beautiful Woman”. She enrolled at the University of Texas in Austin where she studied arts and was also a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. However, she left the university in the junior year to pursue a career in Hollywood.
Fawcett began her career in the late 1960s by acting in various commercials and taking up small roles in television serials like I Dream of Jeannie, The Flying Nun and The Partridge Family. She married The Six Million Dollar Man actor, Lee Majors, in 1973 and also guest starred in the series. However, it was the poster of Farrah Fawcett in a red bathing suit in 1976 that brought her instant success. The poster went on to sell more than eight million copies. In the same year, Fawcett appeared in the famous series Charlie’s Angels as Jill Munroe. This series made her an icon among the young and she featured on a number of magazine covers. She quit the series after a year.
Fawcett has starred in a number of television movies such as Three’s A Crowd (1969), The Great American Beauty Contest (1973), The Girl who came Gift-Wrapped (1974), The Burning Bed (1984), Between Two Women (1986), Extremities (1986) and Children of the Dust (1995). Fawcett has also appeared in television series such as Chasing Farrah (2005) and The Guardian. She has also made guest appearances in various series including Ally McBeal, The Brady Bunch Variety Hour, Days of Our Lives, The Barbara Walters Special and The Captain & Tennille Show.
Fawcett made her big screen debut in the movie Love Is a Funny Thing in 1969. She went on to star in many other movies such as The Cannonball Run (1981), The Apostle (1997), The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars (1998), Dr. T & the Women (2000), and The Cookout (2004). She was honoured in the Texas Film Hall of Fame for her contribution to cinema and television. She has also been nominated for an Emmy, a Golden Globe and an Independent Spirit Award for her realistic portrayal of characters. Farrah Fawcett is involved in many cancer charities and fights against domestic violence. She was married to actor Lee Majors in 1973 from whom she separated in 1982. Currently, she is known to be in an on and off relationship with actor Ryan O’Neal with whom she has one child. She was diagnosed with cancer in 2006 and on her sixtieth birthday was declared cancer free. However, in 2007 she had a relapse and had to go to Germany for further treatment.
