Heroes, an action-packed, science-fiction American series was created by Tim Kring and is directed by Allan Arkush, Greg Beeman and Paul Shapiro among others. The saga premiered on NBC on 25 September, 2006, and chronicles the lives of ordinary individuals who learn gradually that they possess extraordinary capabilities and superhuman powers.
The story progresses with the epochal journey of these individuals who try to deal with the changes the discovery brings to them and also to those around them. The series revolves around how the superhuman individuals try to save individuals and the world at large from major dangers and disasters.
The cast includes Hayden Panettiere as Claire Bennet, Ali Larter as Niki Sanders, Noah Gray-Cabey as Micah Sanders, Greg Grunberg as Matt Parkman, Masi Oka as Hiro Nakamura, Adrian Pasdar as Nathan Petrelli, and Milo Ventimiglia as Peter Petrelli. The show was an instant hit with audiences. The incredible powers possessed by the heroes such as an ability to fly, paint images of the future, interact with electronics and machinery through touch, hear thoughts of others, walk through walls, defy death, make time stand still and absorb the powers of others are fantastic to watch. All these individuals live in different parts of America and accidentally discover their miraculous abilities. Throughout the series the heroes try to evade the antagonists who scheme new plots in an attempt to steal their powers.
This series is aimed at an age group of 18 to 49 year olds and successfully attracted a phenomenal average viewing figure of 14.3 million in the first 25 episodes. The second season, Heroes Evolutions, was equally successful when the series ended in December 2007. So huge was the success that graphic novels have been released every Tuesday since the show began. Creator Tim Kring is all set to launch the third season on 15 September, 2008, which will feature an even bigger gang of villains set out to destroy the world.
The massive popularity of the show saw the series expand in the form of Heroes 360 Experience, an internet show that discusses the show’s mythology. Other official media includes magazines, mobile and computer games, novels, action figures, websites with discussion forums and blogs, clothing and other merchandise.
The series has won accolades like nominations for Outstanding Drama Series at the Golden Globe and Emmy Awards in 2007.
