The Pokémon Trading Card Game is from the popular Pokémon game series. This Card game is a battle of wits aptly called the ‘Pokémon battle’.
You can win a game of Pokémon cards by increasing your pile of ‘prize cards’. This can be done by getting the better of the other player’s Pokémon cards which is possible only with a stronger card. If the other player has no active Pokémon who can win his battles, he loses. Usually, there is a deck of cards that is kept aside at the beginning of every game. Every player is allowed to draw a card when it is their turn. But, if there are no cards remaining, and the player has no cards with him, he naturally loses the battle.
There are five different types of cards in this Pokémon card game. The most important ones are the Pokémon cards. The next two most important sets of cards are the ‘Energy’ cards and the ‘Trainer’ cards. Then, there are also the ‘Stadium’ cards and ‘Supporter’ cards. The cards have ‘attacks’ and ‘Hit Points’ on them. These, however, are not applicable to Energy cards and Trainer cards. Every player uses the attacks and Hit Points on each of his cards to destroy or damage his opponent’s Pokémon and send their cards to the discard stock.
Every Pokémon card has one Pokémon character on it with his name, type, the ‘Hit Points’ available and the level of ‘evolution’. Your Pokémon has evolved if you hold an Evolution card or it has still not evolved if you hold a ‘Basic Pokémon’ card. ‘Energy’ cards are meant to give more power to the Pokémon card and they allow the player to challenge the other player with an attack”. Basic and Special Energy cards make the game interesting. The Pokémon can be given added strengths of ‘Fighting’, ‘Fire’, ‘Grass’, ‘Lightning’, ‘Psychic’ and ‘Water’. Special energy cards give power over ‘Darkness’ and ‘Metal’.
Trainer cards have the power to withdraw energy from the opposing Pokémon, and even bring back to life a Pokémon that has been done away with by the opponent. Each Trainer card is used once and then it is discarded.
UK has seen the rising popularity of the Pokémon Card games over the past few years. Contests are held in places as varied as Hull, London, Manchester, Bournemouth and Glasgow.
