Ben 10: Protector of Earth is a computer game based on the animated television series of the same name aired on Cartoon Network. The cartoon character is aimed at children and teenagers. Ben 10 was released at the end of October 2007 in the United States and then in Europe the following month. The game was launched on the PlayStation 2, the PlayStation Portable, the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS. The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) rates Ben 10 as E10+ which means that the game is suitable only for children above the age of ten years old.
Ben 10: Protector of Earth is a third-person action-adventure shooter game, which starts with the characters of Fourarms and Heatblast. Fourarms is an alien character in the game with four arms. He is ten foot high with super-human powers. The game has been developed by High Voltage Software for video game publisher, D3.
Ben Tennyson is the main character and he is supported by his cousin Gwen and his grandfather Max. During his holiday, a meteorite crashes near Ben’s house and he finds a weird watch-like apparatus that glows in the dark. Upon experimenting, he finds that the apparatus, which is called “Omnitrix”, contains the DNA of aliens and this helps him turn into an alien.
The game revolves around Ben’s ability using the Omnitrix to turn into five aliens and fight the evil aliens and Vilgax – the evil aliens’ leader. Ben can turn into Heatblast (a heat-generating alien), Fourarms (an alien with four arms and formidable strength), and he can also turn into XLR8, Cannonbolt and Wildvine. During the game play, there are certain areas where you can only venture if you are a certain type of alien.
The Ben 10 game play is intriguing and keeps you interested as there are many levels and secret areas which can only be unlocked when Ben has certain powers. Ben has to perform good deeds by defeating evil aliens and rescuing humans to retain his ability to turn into an alien.
Ben 10’s lighting, colours, graphics and sound track are all impressive. The interesting part of Ben 10 is that a second player can get into the game and turn into any of the five heroes. The second player plays alongside Ben 10 to defeat evil aliens.
