Bomberman is considered an iconic game in the video game industry. This arcade-style game was developed and released in 1983 by the Japanese electronic entertainment publisher, Hudson Soft. The company started out producing computer products and then diversified into video games.
Bomberman was released in Japan on five platforms (MSX, NEC PC-8801, NEC PC-6001, Sharp MZ-700 and FM-7) and in Europe on one platform (ZX Spectrum). The English version was entitled Eric and the Floaters while the Spanish version was called Don Pepe Y Los Globos . Over the years, the video game was improved and different series were released. This highly popular game was released on the Famicom/NES, the Famicom Disk System, the Game Boy Advance, the PlayStation and on the Xbox 360.
One of the primary reasons for the enormous success of the game is its innovative story line. Bomberman is a robot working in a bomb factory. Soon he gets bored of doing the same job and wants to break free to the surface. He is the best bomb maker in the factory and he has heard that anyone able to escape from the bomb factory would be granted a wish. Thus his mission is to get to the surface from the underground factory to claim his wish to become human. However, his journey is continuously cut short by security guards at the factory who will do whatever it takes to keep him from fulfilling his wish. Thus Bomberman must make his way through many mazes trying not to be caught by his enemies. He must also find doors hidden behind all kinds of obstacles that he must destroy. Each game has 50 levels in total and as Bomberman progresses he acquires new skills or strengths. For instance, the fire ability will help Bomberman improve the range of his bombs.
In 1998, the video game was released for the PC and the PlayStation. Recently, Bomberman was released by the Xbox Live Arcade Service for the Xbox 360. The latest version of the game allows eight people to play locally and on the Internet.
The game is so popular that it has also been released on mobile phones. You can find the game across Europe through different versions called Bomberman Kart and Bomberman Deluxe . There’s even a Bomberman 3D . A multiplayer option has been added recently through the Bluetooth connection. All these variations prove the impressive status that Bomberman commands in the video game industry today.
