Ghost Recon is a series of tactical soldier shooter video games developed by Red Storm Entertainment, a game development studio set up by the author Tom Clancy. The first Ghost Recon series game was launched in 2001 for the PC platform. The game was also launched for the Apple Macintosh platform, the Xbox, the PlayStation 2 and the GameCube platforms.
The game puts you in command of a fictitious squad belonging to a Special Forces unit. The Special Forces unit is sometimes called the “Ghosts” because of their ability to sneak into enemy territory, complete their mission and move out of enemy area undetected. The game gives you command of two fire team members. You are required to train them, equip them with the necessary weaponry for the mission and command them in the operations area. You will be deployed into the operations area along with your team.
The user interface shows your weapon, your stance, and an enemy or threat indicator with four quadrants which light up when a threat is nearby. The user interface has an aiming sight at the centre of the screen which changes colours when aimed at enemy units. When aiming at friendly players, the aiming pointer changes colour, warning you about firing on friendly units.
The realism in Ghost Recon is world class. Clothes get wet while wading through water and moving tanks shake the earth, giving a fantastic sense of realism to the game play. Maps display you and your team members’ path in case you want to regroup them at any point along the way.
The objective of Ghost Recon is to finish your mission objectives and move to the rendezvous point to get picked up. Each completed mission unlocks new team members with specialized skills making the game play match the skill level of your team members. With each mission the difficulty increases, whether that means the number of enemies, the terrain or the special skills required. There are three basic levels of difficulty while choosing player skill levels. You also have bonus missions once you play all the fifteen missions.
