Electronic Arts (EA), a prominent publisher of computer and video games, has developed a series of games based on the fictional adventures of Harry Potter. This world-renowned orphan boy features in several fantasy novels written by J.K. Rowling, the famous English author. The settings of these stories are mostly in and around the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry where young wizards and witches are trained. The plots revolve around the exploits of Harry Potter as he grows up and fights forces of evil. Several Harry Potter movies have also been released over the years. So far, seven video games have been released by EA based on these books and movies.
The video games released are Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. There was a separate franchise introduced by EA known as Lego Creator: Harry Potter, which developed only a couple of games based on the first two Harry Potter books. These games were released simultaneously with the release of the movies. In the year 2003, Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup was produced. This video game is a Quidditch simulation game that enables the users to play Quidditch, a fictional sport.
EA has developed the Harry Potter games for the Windows PC, the Game Boy Advance, the PlayStation 2, the Xbox, the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo GameCube. The games allow the players to feel the excitement of key moments of the movies. These players can enjoy the realistic graphics and the rich sound during these interactive experiences. The game characters resemble the screen characters in almost every respect. Even the cinematic game locations look like the ones in the film.
The players can control characters like Harry, Ron, and Hermione in these action-packed adventure games. It is also possible for the users to play cooperatively with their friends by combining and casting spells to produce powerful magic. There are various quests that need to be performed by the characters in each Harry Potter game. They can move around and speak with other game characters, or discover items in and around Hogwarts. The characters in these games can even participate in school activities like Gobstones and Exploding Snap. Players use magic to assist these characters. Sometimes, the playable character may even be challenged to a duel by rival characters. All the Harry Potter games developed by EA are full of interactive fun.
