“Mass Effect” is another term for the “dark energy” that is associated with our rapidly expanding universe. The theme of the game is based on the rapidly expanding universe and its related events. Mass Effect involves ideas such as space colonization, intolerance, vigilantism and artificial intelligence to create a gripping space opera.
Mass Effect is a game that is set in a futuristic world in 2183. The player takes on the role of a human soldier, Commander Shepard. Shepard is out on a voyage to explore the cosmic universe with his ship, the SSV Normandy. The Citadel is a huge space station and the core of the entire galactic civilization. The game revolves primarily around the Citadel and the SSV Normandy. The player may navigate the ship to any other planet or spaceship in the universe during the game. Humans are part of the Human Systems Alliance in the Citadel space that is ruled by a government body called the Council and is made up of three alien races called the asari, the salarians and the turians.
The player assumes the role of Commander Shepard, who is the executive officer on the SSV Normandy under the command of Captain Anderson. The ship is on its way to Eden Prime, a human colony. However, the journey is not simple. Saren Arterius, a rogue turian, kills Nihlus, a turian spectre sent by the Citadel Council to assist Commander Shepard. Shepard convinces the Council of Saren’s treason and Shepard is made a spectre so that he can legally hunt down Saren. Shepard also gains control of the ship and he encounters many aliens, friends as well as foes, in each of his conquests. Shepard must find a way of tackling Saren and also has to deal with the “reapers”. The Council, however, is not convinced about his fear of the reapers and the ship is taken away from Shepard. However, Captain Anderson allows Shepard to steal the ship back.
Shepard must eventually save the Citadel which is being attacked by a huge geth army. He can choose between saving the Council in the last battle or allow it to be destroyed. The game play of Mass Effect progresses with each decision you make for Commander Shepard.
