The Godfather computer game is based on the award winning movie series of the same name by Francis Ford Coppolla. Many of the film cast have reprised their respective roles in the movie and have lent their voices to the game. The game was developed and published by Electronics Arts. It was released in 2006 on all the major gaming platforms. The game has been given very good ratings by critics and users alike.
In the game, the user controls the main character named Aldo Trapani. Aldo’s father has been killed by the Barzini family who blow up his bakery. After which Aldo is comforted by Don Vito of the Corleones Family. A few years later, Aldo joins the Corleones. The game follows two storylines: One has all the major events of the film and a personal arc dealing with the career of Aldo in the crime family and also his revenge against the Brazinis for killing his father. In the course of the game, the player progresses to different positions in the mafia and eventually becomes a Don and leads a family of his own.
The game has 18 story missions which a player has to complete while taking out rival business holding and carrying out contract killings. The mission closely follows the storyline of the first film. While the player tries to complete each mission, he has to look after various aspects like the level of police attention towards his activities which may result in the police arresting or attacking the player. The attention can be brought down by bribing a police officer. The player has to watch out for the level of hostilities and enemies that result in the killing of rival family members, taking over business, major holdings and stealing trucks; this may result in the rivals attacking the player and the family by triggering gang wars.
During the course of the game, the player interacts with many members of the Corleone family and has to try to earn respect of others by successful completion of missions and taking over of various rival businesses.
The game has been released on all major gaming platforms like the Playstation 2, Playstation 3, PSP, Xbox, the PC, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii. Each of the games versions differs on the platforms so as to utilise the console’s advantages. There may be different modes available in different versions of the game. In the Wii version of the game, the player can control the action of the character by its motion sensing controllers and providing quite an enjoyable experience to the user. The PS3 version also utilises the console’s SIXAXIS motion sensing controllers.
