The character of Winnie the Pooh, who is often endearingly referred to as Pooh Bear, has been around for more than 80 years now. A popular fictional character, Pooh first appeared in the children’s book Winnie the Pooh in 1926. This was followed a couple of years later by The House at Pooh Corner. Winnie the Pooh is a bear created by A. A. Milne who named him after a teddy bear owned by his son, Christopher Robin Milne. His son is also featured in the stories as Christopher Robin.
The enduring success and popularity of this character among children has led to Pooh Bear being featured in movies and video games. The first video game to be released was in 1986. Winnie the Pooh in the Hundred Acre Wood was a single player game, created by Sierra Online. The game revolved around an item of value that is lost by the characters and has to be traced. It was made for the Amiga, the Apple II, the Atari ST, the Commodore 64, and also for the PC.
Winnie the Pooh Adventures was the next video game to be launched followed by Winnie the Pooh’s Party Games: In Search of the Treasure. Tigger’s Honey Hunt was released on 1 November, 2000, by Disney Interactive. It was launched for the Nintendo 64, the Sony PlayStation and the PC platform. There are two forms of play in Tigger’s Honey Hunt: two-and-a-half dimensional platform style levels and mini games.
Tigger’s Honey Hunt was followed by the video games Pooh and Tigger’s Hunny Safari and Winnie the Pooh Kindergarten. Piglet’s Big Game was released on 18, March 2003. It is again an action-adventure video game by Gotham Games, Disney Interactive and Doki Denki Studio. It was released for the GameCube, the PlayStation 2, the Game Boy Advance and the PC. A single player game, it revolves around the popular character of Piglet who goes into his friends’ dreams and destroys Heffalumps and Woozles.
In 2005, the Phoenix Studio released Disney’s Winnie the Pooh’s Rumbly Tumbly Adventure. This is again a game of the action-adventure genre. It was launched for the PlayStation 2, the GameCube and the Game Body Advance platforms and is a single player game.
Ready To Read With Pooh is a CD-ROM that helps children with their reading. It is designed for children between the ages 3 to 6. This CD-ROM features nine fun activities designed to keep children entertained as well educating them. The activities will keep children busy for hours and they can also collect fun rewards along the way. It was developed by Disney Interactive.
